Two more email questions have come in regarding the Ault Fabric Cutter. One lady had seen the picures on the web site and needed to know how our machine attaches to a flat surface. The other rug hooker noticed that the guide plates the wool rests on do not seem to have any adjustment screws. Two great observations!!
The machine attaches to table top, two-step step ladder top level, Ault’s Cutter caddy or other surfaces by tightening the screw mechanism at the very bottom of the machine. It is a natural when you see it in person and very easy to use.
Regarding the front and back guide plates, they are attached directly to the body of the machine. There is no reason to have to adjust them. This is another of the simplifications we build into the Ault Wool Fabric Cutting machine.
Thank you for all the questions and inquiries about Ault’s new machine.
Had an email this morning asking how the cutter head for our machine is held in place without the flip-over lever the Townsend uses. It is a great question and our answer is simple. We changed the entire drive and gear system around on the Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutting machine. Our machine drives the top gear of the cutter head instead of the botton one. So, cranking the machine is all that is needed to hold the cutterhead in place.
Simple, huh? Come back tomorrow for another question and answer about our Ault machine.
Do you remember the day last summer when you heard Townsend was closing? We received call after call and hundreds of emails from rug hookers wanting to purchase remaining cutter heads and machines. Gloria and I thought long and strong about getting into the strip machine business. After patent searches and legal opinions, we decided to jump into the rug hooking market with our newly designed and simplified machine.
Those decisions seem to be way back in our memory now. Meetings with engineers, manufactures, financial institutions, and others seemed to take over the entire process for a while. We began to wonder if Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutting machine and Ault’s Universal Cutter Head, would ever become a reality.
Now, we are sure it will become a reality. We have our machine and cutterhead pictured on our web site and for the last three weeks we have been taking pre-orders. Pre-ordering will soon come to an end and we will then be able to ship your machines and cutter heads the next day after you order from our web site at www.aults.com . We will also have machines in the store for customers to test and purchase.
So, remember that day when you heard Townsend was going out of business? Remember how your heart seemed to drop because you needed lots of cutter heads yet? Remember we said to be patient because someone else would probably jump into the manufacturing of cutter heads. Well, that someone is Ault’s. We proudly announced that our machine and cutter heads are ” Made In Shelby, Ohio”.

Yesterday, Gloria and I visited the two local firms that are making parts for our Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutter and the Ault’s Universal cutterheads. We still are on track to have available product about Novemebr 15, 2010.
Glo was real excited to see the new machine since she had not been to the manufacturing facility. They had to take our first machine out of the polisher to assemble the parts and give us our first glimpse of the prototype. We are so excited to be producing the machine and cutterheads. Our cutterheads fit nicely into the previously manufactured Townsend machine we have here in the shop.
On November 2, 2010 or before we will place the machine and cutterheads on the web site for pre-ordering. We think our customers will be pleasantly surprised at our pricing.
OK, we are now getting back to the regular first Saturday of the month hookins. Arrive any time after 10:00 a.m and stay to hook, talk, play in the wool or go out for lunch. Or, you can bring your own sack lunch. November 6th is our next hookin. Hope you can come to Ault’s for a fun day. All regular wool purchases that day will be 10% off.
We still have Cushing Dye Packets at $2.50 each and regular wool off the bolt for $18.95 (no discount applies).

Here’s the really good part. The cutterheads for our machine will fit all previously manufactured Townsend machines. We expect to announce our pricing policy on Tuesday Novermber 2nd (don’t forget to vote). And, on that same day our website will start taking orders for cutterheads and machines. We think you will be pleasantly surprised when you see our pricing.
Orders placed over our website will continue to be processed by Paypal. This allows you to use your own credit card and have it treated in a very secure way by Paypal. With phone orders (419-347-9957) we will take your credit card info and process it before shipping your machine or cutterhead.
The quickest way to get onto our sales list is to order machines and cutterheads from our web site starting on November 2nd. Those orders will be shipped in the order we get them. Phone orders will be processed by date of order and will be intermingled with web site sales to be fair to everyone.
We are not sure when we will have a picture of our Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutter. It looks a little like the old Townsend machines but has an updated crank and gear drive system and simplified construction details.
Hope this helps keep you informed of our progress on producing our machine and universal cutterheads to meet your rug hooking needs.
More info as we have it for you. If you just cannot wait for our blog and web site update, just give us a call and we’ll be glad to tell you as much as we can!!
