Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutter Details and Update

Earlier on this blog we mentioned that we would soon be announcing details of a wool fabric cutting machine that we are developing. We wanted to wait a while longer before releasing more details but decided that other announcements about a popular wool fabric cutter meant it is time to continue our announcement.

We have spent lots of time researching what is a patent, what can be patented, what fabric cutters are currently patented and when is it too late to get a patent on an item. We appreciate the efforts of our patent lawyers and their advice to us.

We currently have a 100% CNC capable manufacturing firm preparing engineering drawings for the manufacture of  Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutter. Our machine will easily produce reliable cut wool strips similar to other machines currently being used by crafters doing rug hooking.

The cutterhead in our machine has been slightly modified from a popular machine currently being used by rug hookers. It will also fit into Townsend machines  that were purchased prior to the closing of Townsend Industries earlier this year.

We expect to have cutterheads available first, hopefully between Thanksgiving and  Christmas, and then the machine shortly after that. Our cutterheads will be available in sizes most popular with primitive style rug hookers.

If you want to be on our special email list to keep up with our release details, please send us an email with the subject line shown as “Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutter”.

You mention primitive but will you also have fine cut blades?

  2. Anne Easstwood says:

I am a rug hooking teacher in Venice FL and I have a working Townsend cutter. Many of my students are concerned about their Townsend cutters that may need repair in the future.
I direct 4 rug schools in FL & I would like to be informed when you have cutters and machines for sale so that I may tell my students.

    Thanks you and God bless,

Happy to hear this. I love options. 🙂 I presently have the 4, 6 & 8 blades (Townsend) so will be happy to see when the smaller 5 & 7 will be manufactured. The larger cuts are too hard on my hands.

  4. Shirley says:

Will you have blades for fine cut(s)?

      HI Pat,
Good to hear from you. Our word Universal refers to fitting our machine or the previously manufactured Townsend machine. Sorry. If you want to contact Rigby your best way is by mail. I think he hates to answer the phone. The only way to deal with him is to get a price quote plus shipping and then send him a check or money order.

    Hi Larry,
I’m chomping at the bit to find out more about your fabric cutter. Are you any closer to releasing pictures and pricing yet? Also, do you still have a decent selection of Cushing dyes left yet? Not sure yet what colors I could use but I can check that out if you still have a decent supply. I am just starting to get into rug hooking but I have done dyeing as a handspinner. I really enjoyed the dyeing then. I just need to check my old dye books for the most commonly used colors.

      Hi Deb,

Got our final price quote on manufactured parts for the cutterheads today. We do not have a firm date for availability but we are shooting for November 15th. Looks like our price for Ault’s Cutterheads will be about $122.00 plus shipping. Keep watching our blog for updates. Our Ault’s Wool Fabric Cutter machine should also be available about the same time. We think the retail price will be aound $390.00 including 1 cutterhead.

  9. Nancy Winn says:

I have requests from 5 hookers who need #3 blades. These are in demand for doing fine work on portraits and, of course, fine- shaded hooking. Any possibility you’d reconsider manufacturing that size?

    • larry says:

The reason we did not make the No.3 size is the cost of making them due to the number of parts and the small number of No.3’s we sell. If you are really interested and can get a total of 15 orders we will make them especially for you. They would be priced at $149.95 each.

    • larry says:

      Hi Nancy,

Sorry I have taken so long to reply. I can have No.3 cutter heads made for you. We sell so few No.3’s that we still want to know if you want them.
Also, your order of other cutter heads will be in our next shipment.

  10. Lynda says:

Hi, I am so happy that you are filling a huge gap in our rug hooking community, Thanks! My question is, will you have the long cutter heads?
